“Pure Milk”

Beginning with God’s word means starting with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It means drinking in the deep love of God that is simple to understand yet meets our mental, physical, emotional and spiritual needs. When a newborn takes in the milk from a nursing mother, he/she is not only getting nourishment but also loving care and security. We, as believers, are being held by God as we drink freely of His salvation.

Babies/infants can take in the mother’s milk because it requires no chewing and it satisfies their hunger and thirst. It is easy to digest and is quickly absorbed into the blood stream and developing organs. It supplies the whole body with three important essentials:

First, it gives the newborn antibodies to fight off germs or infections. Their immune system is still developing and the mother’s supply of antibodies through the milk gives protection and strength to the “inner man.”

Second, the mother’s milk gives nutrients of vitamins and minerals already broken down to aid in the growth and development of the infant. Peter says, “Grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ.” (II Peter 3:18)

Third, this pure milk acts like a depressant that gives the baby a satisfaction in which he/she has peace and fulfillment, and after they have fed on the milk, it relaxes them so that they can sleep.

Our spiritual life in Christ is like this! We are held by the Father with loving assurance that we are safe and secure and satisfied. John 10:28 “And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.” That is a great assurance, and we can rest in it.

Peter said in I Peter 2:2 “Like newborn babies crave pure spiritual milk, so that you may grow up in your salvation.”
